You click on an exercise, it starts, but it does not finish loading. Everything comes to a stop.

Cause: This problem usually happens

  • when your browser is set to block pop-up windows, and/or
  • when your browser has not enabled Javascript.

Solution, Part 1: Do one of the following:

  • In your browser Preferences, un-check the option to Block Pop-Ups (or some similar wording).
  • In your browser Preferences, set it to accept pop-ups from www.longleaf.net
    • In Firefox, preferences are located under Tools/Options/Web Features.

Solution, Part 2: Do this:

  • In your browser Preferences, find and check the option to enable JavaScript.

When the exercise begins correctly, you will see a window that asks for your Newsroom 101 name.

Still have the problem?

  • Try a different browser.
  • The exercises appear to work well on Firefox and Mozilla, which are free browsers.

You complete an exercise, but you do not get a Thanks! page. Nothing at all happens.

Cause: One or more of your questions does not have the correct answer checked.

Solution: Using the Back Button (which looks like this: <==), page back through each item, verifying that the correct answer has been checked.

You know a correct answer has been checked when one or both of these appear:

  • A smiley face in the box next to the answer choice, and/or
  • Text in the feedback area (above the question) that starts with Correct! (or equivalent).

You complete an exercise, but, instead of getting a Thanks! page, you get a window that says something like "URL Not Found."

Cause: That usually means the server is temporarily busy. Perhaps someone else submitted a quiz at the exact instant you did.

Solution: Wait a couple of seconds, then click your last correct answer ONCE more. Don't make extra clicks. The Thanks! page should appear shortly.
